FT at UMN Rochester

The University of Minnesota Rochester (www.r.umn.edu) invites applications for a non-tenure track instructor position in physics for its degree program B.S. in Health Sciences. This position is primarily teaching-focused. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other faculty to coordinate and teach the range of physics courses with integrated laboratory needed by students in the BSHS program (including algebra-based and calculus-based introductory level physics courses).  BSHS courses are integrated across the curriculum and involve significant interdisciplinary components.
Duties include ordering supplies, preparing and teaching laboratory sessions, assisting in the delivery of content in active learning classrooms, grading, staffing the Just ASK tutoring center (https://r.umn.edu/academics-research/cli/just-ask/), supervising peer tutors, facilitating department-wide data collection efforts that coincide with normal course delivery duties, and other related duties as assigned.
The lab instructor will join the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI). CLI leads the development of an integrated curriculum for a baccalaureate degree in the health sciences. It promotes a learner-centered, competency-based learning environment in which ongoing assessment guides and monitors student learning and is the basis for data-driven research on learning.
The successful candidate has a M.S. or Ph.D. in physics or related fields with knowledge of basic techniques in a physics laboratory setting. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required. Experience in laboratory instruction is preferred. The successful candidate enjoys working with students, works well in interdisciplinary teams, and is comfortable working independently.
