In anticipation of increases in enrollment for the 2014-2015 academic year, GGC invites applicants for faculty positions in Physics starting August 1, 2014. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching of a variety of undergraduate physics and physical science courses in support of existing majors in Biology, Information Technology and Mathematics. The successful candidate will also participate in the development of new major programs as we grow. STEM Ed Postdoc at Berea College KY

Berea College seeks applicants for a two-year, NSF-funded postdoctoral position in STEM education research. The College has recently embarked on an institution-wide, collaborative effort to implement evidence-based teaching practices in the introductory STEM courses (biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics). The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education, interest and experience in course and curriculum development in the STEM disciplines, and excellent oral and written communication skills. Responsibilities will include: (1) supporting faculty as they identify learning goals, re-design syllabi, and develop assessments to implement studio-based curricula in the introductory STEM courses, (2) collecting and analyzing assessment data across the participating courses, (3) working closely with undergraduate Teaching Assistants to facilitate collaborative peer learning, and (4) teaching one discipline-based, introductory course per academic year. Minimum requirements for this position include an earned doctorate in science, science education, or a closely related field; knowledge of studio-based models for introductory STEM courses (such as SCALE-UP); and extensive experience in discipline-based education research. Previous college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Master's in physics, astronomy, astrophysics OR Bachelor's in Physics or Astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR the equivalent.

The Paradigms in Physics group at Oregon State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position involving the evaluation and dissemination of our novel upper-division curricular materials.  The successful candidate will also work with the Paradigms in Physics team to: conduct research on the effects of Paradigms curricular materials on expert and student understanding of partial derivatives in electromagnetism, classical mechanics, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics and/or in other science and mathematics disciplines; and/or conduct research on student changes in metacognition and epistemology; and/or write/design/evaluate learning trajectories for partial derivatives throughout mathematics and physics undergraduate courses.  The successful candidate will teach one upper-division physics course per term using materials developed by the Paradigms program.  Education researchers in disciplines such as mathematics or engineering are welcome to apply if they have sufficient background in physics to teach the required upper-division physics courses.

The appointment is for one year with renewal for a second year contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance.  The starting date of the appointment is no later than September 15, 2014.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer at Monash AU

The School of Physics seeks to appoint an outstanding Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Level B/C) who will make innovative contributions to the teaching program.

A major focus of the position is to provide leadership in the development and implementation of "Studio Physics" through the Physics and Astronomy Collaborative-learning Environment. You will be expected to conduct independent research and develop scholarly and professional activities in physics or astronomy.

Modern laboratory facilities are a high priority in the School's Strategic Plan. The School's research laboratories were recently moved to a $175M building - the New Horizons Centre. Premium laboratory space, with excellent vibrational and temperature control, will be provided to an appointee in experimental physics in this new building. Currently the school supports an array of major instrumentation which includes condensed matter physics laboratories for investigating 2D materials.laser trapping and cooling (BEC) laboratories, atom optics laboratories; advanced X-ray facilities (e.g., SAXS/WAXS, rotating anode X-ray system). The School has access to advanced electron microscopy and microanalysis facilities (via the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy) and is also a large user of overseas synchrotron radiation facilities (e.g., SPring-8, Photon Factory, ESRF and the APS); researchers in the School are actively involved with beamline development at the Australian Synchrotron, which is adjacent to Monash University. The School has access to neutron scattering facilities on the new Research Reactor (OPAL) at ANSTO in Sydney, as well as a wide range of facilities for growing and characterising advanced materials. The School also has access to state-of-the-art mechanical and electronics workshops via the Instrumentation and Technology Development Facility, which is adjacent to our research laboratories. The School has very active astrophysics, theoretical & computational physics programmes. The School is a major partner in the Monash Centre for Astrophysics, which is one of the most diverse astrophysics research groups in Australia. Other areas s of research include: atom, electron and x-ray optics, particle physics, particle astrophysics and cosmology and computational condensed matter physics. The School has access to the University's cluster and grid computing facilities, and as a member of VPAC/APAC we have access to major supercomputing facilities. You will be strongly encouraged to collaborate with theorists in the School. As part of the growing effort in low-dimensional electronic materials the School is hiring an additional condensed matter theorist with expertise in this area.

You will hold a PhD in Physics or Astronomy and have a record of publications and citations in high impact physics or astrophysics journals. You will be expected to attract national competitive grants, establish an independent research program and supervise research students.
