Effectively instructs students from diverse backgrounds in Physics courses in classroom, laboratory and/or online settings; participates in campus and/or District committees; is active in division and program projects and professional growth endeavors; provides leadership to adjunct faculty; uses instructional technologies and incorporates active learning techniques. Works with a diverse population of students, faculty, administrators and staff. Essential Functions 65% - Facilitates student learning in classroom, laboratory, in the field, and/or on-line; uses instructional technologies, and incorporates active learning techniques 15% - Engages in continuous improvement of curriculum, integrating new developments in physics and using best practices from physics education research, and provides leadership to adjunct faculty 10% - Works collaboratively with colleagues on strategic planning and creative problem-solving within the division and college as a whole 10% - Maintains office hours to tutor/mentor/advise students on curricular, co-curricular, academic, and/or career issues Minimum Qualifications 1. A Master's degree in the teaching field, or a Master's in any teaching field with 24 upper division and/or graduate semestser hours in the teaching field, or a Master's in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field 2. EDU250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community Colleges or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire Desired Qualifications 1. Experience with teaching algebra and calculus based physics to diverse groups of students at the undergraduate level 2. Experience with use of instructional technology with students in classroom/laboratory environment 3. Experience with collaborative planning and problem-solving within an academic unit (e.g department, division, college) 4. Experience participating with physics or science-based professional organization(s) and their periodicals, meetings and/or workshops 5. Experience with co-curricular activities such as science outreach, dual enrollment, service learning, learning communities, student clubs, etc 6. Education, training, and experience incorporating best practices from physics education research regarding curriculum, interactive engagement, active learning, and emerging topics/trends in modern applications of physics Special Working Conditions May be required to work at multiple campuses. May be required to teach evenings and weekends, and/or be assigned to teach on particular days. May be required to lift objects up to 30 lbs. Special Notes This position will begin August, 2014.
