PER Postdoc Position at Kansas State University

The PER group at Kansas State University invites applications for a research postdoctoral fellow in physics education research. The preferred start date for the successful applicant is January 2017.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in research, which will involve developing and testing physics assessments (primarily for college courses) that align with the ideas underlying the Next Generation Science Standards. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to mentoring graduate students and undergraduate researchers.

The initial appointment is for one year with a possible second year term appointment contingent upon performance and availability of funding.

Physics Supplemental Instructor at Naval Academy Preparatory School

The incumbent will:
  1. Provide Out of Class Academic Instruction – Provide individualized extra instruction by appointment and on a walk-in basis. Monitor study periods, sometimes involving large groups of students, including providing tutoring, maintaining an environment conducive to learning, mentoring students in study strategies, time management, and positive work habits. This is mostly done during evening and weekend hours when classroom instructors are not available.
  2. Coordinate with and Support Physics Faculty – Provide feedback concerning student progress, including issues with problem solving or mathematical deficiencies, to the student’s instructor. Support the creation of learning aids such as worksheets and written solutions.  Log the time spent with and type of help given to each student in the electronic spreadsheet so that the faculty can track student effort.  Fill in for instructors in the classroom when an absence is anticipated well in advance.
  3. Support School-wide Mission – Provide leadership for curricular activities and collateral duties, as assigned. Participate in suitable professional development.
  4. Coordinate with Supervisor - Provide overall support of divisional tasking. Ensure balance between critical job elements.    Timely support of division administrative requirements in a professional fashion, to include submission of academic reports and personnel performance appraisals.

This will be a 10-month per year appointment for a 3-year contract period. Renewal of this appointment is anticipated and will be contingent on funding and the performance of the incumbent during the contract period as well as the needs and emerging plans relating to the Naval Academy Preparatory School's Physics Division. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the experience and expertise of the individual as well as the responsibilities of the position.

Terms of Employment:
This position, which is contingent upon funding, is a full-time, tenure-track assignment of 173 contracted days per year with the tenure process starting in September 2017, and with the opportunity to start working an earlier quarter. Assignment may include district discipline/program coordination, as well as evening, hybrid, and/or online teaching. This is a District position with a "home" campus assignment. The Evergreen State College seeks a broadly trained faculty colleague dedicated to teaching physics in a wide range of innovative and interdisciplinary academic offerings. This is a joint hire between the College of Education and the Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU). The Department of Physics at the University of Redlands invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Physics to begin August 2017. In addition to offering B.S and B.A. degrees in physics and minors in physics and astronomy, the department supports an engineering combined-degree program. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of undergraduate physics courses for both non-majors and majors, which will include electronics and advanced laboratory. Any subfield of physics will be considered.

Position Description:
The position is a permanent, tenure-track, academic year contract with a negotiable start date.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Teach 30-32 credit hours of Physics and related courses, depending upon the successful applicant’s background/interest, and the needs of the College. This position will be responsible for demonstrating academic excellence through its required duties of course instruction and assessment, curriculum development, student advising and evaluation, governance participation and service to the
college, as well as professional development. Instructors may be scheduled to teach classes during days, evenings, and/or online.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have at minimum a Master’s degree in Physics, or a closely related field with a strong physics foundation, and experience teaching Physics to undergraduates. Preferred qualifications include at least 9 graduate semester hours in Chemistry or another science discipline.

Salary: $38,030-$48,399 annually
