TT-Equivalent, Evergreen State College WA

http://evergreen.edu/facultyhiring/jobs/Physics-17.htm

This is a full-time, regular* faculty position starting in the 2017-18 academic year.

The Evergreen State College seeks a broadly trained faculty colleague dedicated to teaching physics in a wide range of innovative and interdisciplinary academic offerings. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates at all levels in inclusive learning environments using research-based pedagogies. Candidates from any physics subfield or related area may be considered. Candidates should be able to teach physics at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels (including electronics and/or advanced labs) in the established science curriculum. Candidates should also be able to collaborate with colleagues in the sciences, as well as in the arts, humanities, and social sciences, to teach physics as part of a general education within broadly themed, interdisciplinary courses.

Evergreen faculty typically teach in teams, have a significant amount of direct contact with students, and enjoy a high degree of freedom to determine the subject matter, emphasis, classroom strategies, and modes of evaluation in their programs. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience or interest in using innovative pedagogies to engage students in developing their conceptual understanding of quantitative ideas and their hands-on, laboratory-based experimental skills in physics. We seek candidates committed to teaching in an interdisciplinary context in a curriculum that emphasizes personal engagement, connecting theory to practice, and collaborative learning across significant differences. Candidates who have background and interests beyond the sciences and have prior experience teaching with faculty from other disciplines are encouraged to apply. We also particularly encourage applicants who have a demonstrated interest and willingness to work with underserved students from diverse socio-economic and/or cultural backgrounds.

In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to advise and mentor students and participate in Evergreen’s system of shared governance. Through their participation in shared governance, faculty play a significant role in most aspects of how the college is run.

*Regular is equivalent to tenure-track at other colleges. A complete description of the continuing contract and conversion process can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, article 11.
