Post-Doctoral Fellow for Science Education and Computational Thinking Project at Northwestern
Northwestern University (NU) School of Education and Social Policy seeks applicants for a postdoctoral position in the learning sciences. The candidate will be part of a team of researchers, faculty, and teachers involved in a newly funded initiative by the National Science Foundation's Computing Education for the 21st Century Program. The goal of this project is to develop, implement, and evaluate CT activities embedded within high school STEM courses as well as design the curriculum for a full-year CT-STEM course. The College is seeking an outstanding faculty member with demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship in a liberal arts environment to join us as of September 1, 2012. A hands-on experimentalist is preferred. An interest or background in the areas of energy/sustainability, optics, materials, or condensed matter physics is desirable. Candidates with a background or interest in other areas of physics will also be considered. Doctoral degree in Physics by September 1, 2012 is required and post-doctoral experience would be a plus. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to develop a research program supported by external grants and fostering faculty-mentored student collaboration. The College provides several competitive internal grant programs to provide project initiation. Teaching load is normally 12 hours/semester, with most courses carrying 4 - 6 hours of teaching credit.
