Position:
The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, Physics and Astronomy (CSEPA) of the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Physics/Astronomy at the UW-Barron County campus.

Title:
Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in physics or closely related field and evidence to conduct scholarship in physics or astronomy are required. Strong candidates will also have a background in astronomy. Preference will be given to candidates with successful college teaching experience, experience in interdisciplinary or collaborative teaching, and teaching with instructional technology or distance education teaching.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include a teaching load of 12 to 14 contact hours per semester in a combination of lecture and laboratory sections. The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, college algebra-based and/or calculus-based physics, introductory astronomy and/or physics for the health sciences. Options to teach distance education courses and to participate in interdisciplinary or collaborative instruction may be available. As a tenure-track position, additional responsibilities include scholarly activity directed at either disciplinary research or research related to teaching within the discipline. Institutional service, community service, and student advising are also required.

Institution and Campus:
The UW Colleges is the freshman-sophomore transfer institution within the UW System. UW Colleges functions as a unit that comprises thirteen two-year campuses, each of which offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor's degree.

The Barron County campus enrolls about 600 students with a full-time teaching staff of 25. The science facilities include modern, well-equipped teaching and laboratory spaces. The campus is located in Rice Lake, a town of about 8,000 that serves as a commercial center in northwestern Wisconsin, with a shopping population in excess of 100,000. About two hours driving distance from Minneapolis-St. Paul, the campus is bounded by the Red Cedar River and has been visited daily by bald eagles throughout its existence. Rice Lake is also a medical and cultural center for the region. The town is situated among several lakes known for game fishing and near ski trails half an hour to the east in the Blue Hills.
