TT at Lynchburg College

The Physics Program of Lynchburg College invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in August, 2012. A doctoral degree in Physics or related field is required; post doctoral experience (research and/or teaching) is a plus. We seek an astronomer or astrophysicist who will teach introductory astronomy courses and an occasional physics course, develop a research program suitable for undergraduates, and, depending on future enrollment, develop an astrophysics emphasis in our physics major. We recently opened a new observatory about 45 minutes from campus, featuring a 20-in Truss Ritchey-Chrétien telescope and six Celestron CPC 800 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. Our observatory serves us in three ways: teaching facility, research facility, and service facility (Open Houses, alumni events, etc.). For additional information on the physics program, please visit: http://www.lynchburg.edu/physics.xml. Selected candidate must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the College. Interested applicants should send a letter of application with position number, a curriculum vita, a statement of teaching philosophy and research plans, name and contact information for references, and copy of undergraduate and graduate transcripts to Desi Justis, Physics Search, School of Sciences, Lynchburg College, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501. E-mail applications will be accepted in MS Word or PDF format sent to justis.d@lynchburg.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. EOE.
