Part-Time Instructor or Adj. Asst. Prof. of Physics
January – June 2014
The Kalamazoo College Physics Department invites applications for a part-time leave replacement position at the instructor or assistant professor level, January to June, 2014. The position would be half to two-thirds time (20-30 hours/week) and would involve teaching physics at the introductory level in a team-taught, active learning environment. Our department employs an active-learning “flipped classroom” environment in which class and lab are combined and relatively little time is spent lecturing. The introductory physics courses are calculus based, and use the well-known textbook Physics – A Strategic Approach by Randall Knight. Minimum qualifications are a relevant master’s degree and significant teaching experience in undergraduate physics courses. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and command of the English language, will be excited about teaching physics to undergraduates, and will be familiar with and invested in the results of Physics Education Research. Compensation will depend on qualifications.
Kalamazoo College is a highly selective, nationally recognized liberal arts college of approximately 1400 motivated undergraduates offering an integrated undergraduate experience that weaves a traditional liberal arts curriculum into educational experiences in both domestic and international settings. The Physics Department typically enrolls about 100 students/year in its introductory physics course sequence and graduates about 10 majors each year, including some who pursue a 3/2 engineering program.
