The Maine Center for Research in STEM Education, and the School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine invites applications for the position of the STEM Professional Development Coordinator for the Widening Implementation and Demonstration of Evidence-Based Reforms (WIDER) Program, an innovative, research and development effort funded by the National Science Foundation for two years. This program brings together University of Maine science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) faculty; K-12 teachers; as well as graduate and undergraduate students to target the improvement of the teaching and learning of STEM disciplines at the university level.
Responsibilities of the STEM Professional Development Coordinator include coordinating all aspects of faculty, K-12 teacher, graduate student, and undergraduate student professional development, including programming, problem solving, logistics, food, scheduling, attendance, communication, documentation and evaluation. The STEM Professional Development Coordinator will also coordinate internal evaluative research, manage evaluative data collection.
The successful applicant must hold a BS or BA in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline or in education, or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants with a Master’s or PhD degree in a STEM discipline or in education, and candidates who have experience working with K-12 teachers. The successful applicant must possess exceptionally strong organizational abilities and written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
This full-time professional position is contingent on continued funding and successful job performance. This job is performed primarily in an office setting. Expectations are for a normal 40-hour work week, although the employee will be available during professional development events. The job responsibilities are fairly predictable, although there might be some unexpected situations or deadlines that occasionally require working outside of the normal workday.
