Assistant/Associate/Professor Science Education/Urban Education
Teacher Education
Essential Duties of the Position:
Teach undergraduate and graduate education courses (3/3 load);
Collaborate with the Center for Innovation in Urban Education (CIUE);
Advise undergraduate and graduate students; Seek external funding for
science education or STEM initiatives; Collaborate with K-12 school
personnel and Loyola University Maryland STEM faculty; Participate in
scholarly activity; Engage in departmental, university, and community
service.
Required Qualifications:
PhD or EdD in urban education, social justice education, social
foundations of education, educational studies, science education
(physics education, biological education, chemistry education are
included), or STEM education (candidates with a PhD or EdD in urban
education, social foundations of education, or educational studies must
demonstrate significant course work in science education, science
teaching experience, and/or a masters degree in science education or
STEM education); Documented evidence of scholarly potential and/or
production; Knowledge of STEM initiatives and development of STEM
programs; Knowledge of national trends in science education including
but not limited to the Next Generation Science Standards; Minimum three
years K-12 science classroom teaching experience (preference will be
given to teaching experiences in an urban context);
Ability to teach courses in a variety of areas of education (social
foundations of education, urban education, action research, science
education); Ability to teach science methods courses for elementary
education majors;
Commitment to improving urban education through research, community
engagement & practice; Familiarity with Maryland certification
requirements and standards related to science education; Demonstrated
ability to build relationships in urban communities; Demonstrated
commitment to quality teaching and teamwork; Possess commitment to the
Jesuit mission in higher education
Desired Qualifications:
College level teaching experience; Experience in grant writing related
to science education, STEM education, and/or urban education; Experience
coordinating science education or STEM programs in urban schools and
communities; Possess effective leadership skills.
