This position is located at the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, RI, where the overall mission is to academically qualify selected Candidates for admission to the U.S. Naval Academy.
The Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, Rhode Island is seeking a qualified applicant for a Math/Physics Supplemental Instructor. Incumbent serves as a supplemental instructor in the disciplines of Math and Physics, which requires professional knowledge of undergraduate mathematics (up to Calculus), physics and education. He/she provides assistance to students taking math & physics as a supplement to the faculty after the class day. Conducts extra instruction, using principles of study skills and time management as learning tools. Meets with students one-on-one or in small groups to address learning development in math/physics. Provides assistance for other learning tools such as computer applications software. Keeps abreast of modern methods of teaching math & physics, study skills development and time management. Independently diagnoses problem solving and reading comprehension impediments, prescribes corrective measures, and advises the math and physics faculty on the status of student development. Instructor will be expected to work flexible schedules hours, mostly evening and weekend hours (to include Friday evening and Saturday morning). This a full-time, seasonal (Aug-May) position.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Physics or a related field requiring significant course work in those disciplines from an accredited college or university. Applicant must have experience teaching Physics, Algebra, Trigonometry and/or Calculus, and show an ability to tutor students from a variety of backgrounds. U.S. citizenship required.
Experience with academic at-risk students is a plus.
