Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities of the Department: The Department provides students with a quality education through a basic liberal-arts foundation and prepares students with the ability to provide quality chemical/materials analysis through various analytical methods and instrumentations. In addition, the Chemistry Program serves as a solid foundation for the matriculation into graduate or professional schools. The Department is equipped with many the-state-of-the-art analytical instruments such as electron microprobe, scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, x-ray diffractometer, UV-Vis, Raman, fluorescence, FTIR, NMR, HPLC, HPLC-MS/MS, GC, GC/MS/MS, CE etc.

Description of Work Continued:
Primary responsibilities of the Position: Responsibilities of faculty include but not limited to: 1) teach courses per nine-month academic year based on interest, expertise, and departmental needs, though the teaching requirement may be adjusted to accommodate research projects; 2) conduct his/her own research and support materials research and education efforts at FSU; 3) initiate and help to initiate new research as well as partnership among faculty at FSU and other schools in NC; 4) support and occasionally represent FSU in materials related initiatives across the North Carolina and Nationally; 5) secure external grant funding to support his/her own research and the research needs of the department, university, and FSU’s research partners; 6) assist with outreach to faculty, corporations, and other agencies to promote partnership with FSU. Eligible candidates are required to have a strong interest and willingness to play a lead role in integrating web-based instructional resources into their teaching. Ability to teach students from diverse backgrounds is critical.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Ph.D. degree in Physics or Materials Science who has taken at least 18 credits physics courses at graduate level;

Education, experience, research productivity, and external funding awards that warrant appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics;

Strong record of securing external grant funding to support research as the PI/PD of such projects.

Knowledge skills and abilities:
Teaching and instruction for groups of individuals; ability to communicate
effectively, orally and in writing with peers and students; ability to work
effectively and productively with others; time management skills, and ability to
work with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong preference will be given to the candidate who has prior teaching and research experience. The candidates are expected to develop new research with current faculty members in one or more of the following areas, but not restricted to: advanced materials for energy, environmental, engineering, biological or medical applications, characterization of materials – especially by electron microscopy and microanalysis, computational physics or materials science, nanoscience and nanotechnology, physical science education.
