Position Description:
The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at Lee University seeks a Physics and Physical Science faculty member to begin in August of 2017. To be considered for a position at the level of Assistant Professor or higher, candidates must have an earned Doctorate in Physics or a related discipline. Candidates holding a Master's degree in Physics or a related discipline may be considered for a position as Lecturer. This position is intended to address growth in our physic service to pre-professional majors, implementation of a pre-engineering degree, and growth in core science service in physical science. The general physics lecture and laboratory will be a shared with the existing physics faculty and teaching of upper-division physics courses in our pre-engineering major will be available based on expertise. The balance of the teaching load will be in our freshman science core. A strong record of effective teaching is also especially desirable. Duties will include teaching the general physic, physics courses for engineering, physical and earth and space science lecture and laboratory; mentoring undergraduate student-faculty research or other scholarship involvement appropriate in our primarily teaching-focused institution; advising students as assigned; university and community service; curriculum development; reporting to Department Chair; and working cooperatively with departmental faculty in complementing current departmental strengths.
Required qualifications include Christian commitment and Community Covenant lifestyle agreement; doctorate/masters in appropriate field; demonstrated college teaching ability; ability to develop and mentor students in limited scope research; ability to integrate Christian faith into course lectures; post-doctoral experience preferred, but not required.
