When Needed: 2nd Semester 2016-17 Academic Year (Late January through Mid-June, 2017)
University Prep is seeking a talented, dynamic and compassionate Upper School Physics Teacher to help us advance our vision of being an inclusive community of learners that provides an outstanding education for each individual in a diverse student population. Job Summary:
Under minimal supervision, and on a full-time basis, teaches Upper School Science courses as needed.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teaches three sections of Physics and one section of Science Olympiad per semester; provides classroom instruction and management
Conducts co-curricular activities as assigned by the Division Directors, according to the needs of the school
Satisfactorily completes the requirements of the Individualized Teacher Improvement Plan (ITIP), as outlined in the ITIP manual
Participates fully in the admissions process, including but not limited to attending Open House evenings, interviewing prospective students, and/or teaching mock classes
Chaperones school events outside of normal school hours (e.g., dances, service outings, or social events) as determined by the Division Directors
Effectively communicates with all school constituencies, including maintaining an online presence via our learning management system
Participate in school-related functions (e.g., Back to School Night, Commencement, etc.) as determined by the Head of School
Attends faculty and division-appropriate meetings, in-service programs and staffings
Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents and administrators as appropriate
Actively participates in the life of the school outside of class
Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the schools documents
Establishes and cultivates community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the schools constituencies
Vigorously engages in his/her own professional development
Since safety and security are everyone's responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
Performs other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, lunch duty, study hall supervision, etc.

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university in Physics or related field.
Ability to teach various Physics electives preferred
Masters degree preferred
5+ years teaching experience preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Flexibility, energy, enthusiasm and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
Commitment to teaching the whole child
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Understanding of the developmental needs of both Upper and Middle School-aged students
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows or Mac environment using Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
Comfortable with operating Audio/Visual equipment
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
