Effectively teaches Algebra and Calculus-based Introductory Mechanics, Heat and Waves, and Algebra based Introductory Electro Magnetism, Optics and Modern Physics, and Astronomy; designs and lectures to actively engage students. Promotes and strengthens physical sciences program infrastructure; mentors students in career paths. Oversees and analyzes student outcomes in physics. Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students in matters related to academics; assists students in achieving completion of objectives. Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues; participates in SSU recruitment and retention initiatives and in campus and community events. Employees may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.
A minimum of a Master’s degree (PhD is preferred) in physics or related field with emphasis on physics and Astronomy education research. A minimum of 2 years teaching experience from an accredited institution is considered a plus. Background and/or credit checks may be required.
