TT at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor in science and/or mathematics education beginning Fall 2009. The School of Education, in particular the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, needs a faculty member to expand its ability to participate in the larger campus-wide STEM initiative.

We seek a colleague who values teacher inquiry; works collaboratively with faculty within and across units to strengthen the initial and advanced preparation of P-12 teachers; and will assist in moving our campus science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education initiative forward.

Required qualifications include: a Doctorate in Science or Math Education or closely related field; two years P-12 teaching experience or the equivalent; demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching at the university level; strong education related scholarly interests and a record of accomplishment appropriate to career stage; and a broad and deep knowledge of teacher education and teacher development, curriculum and content-specific pedagogy

Preferred qualifications include: a strong interest and or experience in developing STEM education related courses/programs; a proven record of scholarly productivity and/ or obtaining external funding related to STEM education; experience supervising teacher candidates in P-12 clinical sites, a strong interpersonal, speaking, writing, organization and time management skills; the ability to integrate technology into the classroom; and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations

The responsibilities of this position include: teaching courses in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; mentoring students; supporting clinical practice at partnership schools; conducting research and scholarly activities; serving on university, department, and program committees; and working in a collaborative learning community with students, colleagues, and P-12 partners.
