Description: The Physics Education Research group in the Department of Engineering & Science Education at Clemson University seeks a Research Associate (postdoc) in physics education, engineering education, science education or closely related field starting July 2011. The position is allotted for work on two NSF funded research projects: (i) qualitative case studies of high school physics teachers who are effective in promoting the physics identity development of their students and (ii) a large scale quantitative study focusing on identifying factors in high school science classes that impact career choices, particularly for female students. A major focus of the second project is how sustainability-related issues can be incorporated into mainstream physics classes such that students become more motivated towards careers which can address these issues. Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the successful applicant will be to 1) travel with other team members to conduct classroom observations and interviews across the country, 2) coordinate team members, logistics, and data collection for the large-scale quantitative study, 3) analyze collected data, and 4) present/publish findings.

Eligibility: We will consider PhD graduates with expertise in physics education research, STEM education research (with strong physics, chemistry, or engineering content background), or traditional areas of STEM research who have experience in conducting education research.
