Two TT at San Jose State Univ.

San Jose State University has two tenure-track openings in the Department of Physics and Astronomy this fall: one for a computational astrophysicist and the other for an experimental condensed matter physicist.

Both positions require a PhD in physics (or astronomy), a demonstrated ability to perform outstanding research, and a dedication to high-quality teaching. Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching or other comparable experience.

The successful candidate for the computational astrophysics position will teach physics and astronomy courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and will contribute to our MS program in computational physics. He/She will also develop an externally funded research program that includes computational astrophysics. The successful candidate for the condensed matter position will be expected to teach lectures and labs at undergraduate and graduate (MS) levels in condensed matter as well as general physics. He/She will also develop an externally funded research program in experimental condensed matter physics.

Successful candidates for either position will provide on-campus research opportunities to our diverse population of students, and participate in service to the department, college and university. He/She must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
