TT at Western Washington University

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Western Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position starting September 2012. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in physics. Successful applicants must complement existing departmental and college-wide research, with preference given to candidates in condensed matter or materials theory. Candidates should be actively engaged in research with a strong publication record; post-doctoral experience is preferred. Candidates should also have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates. Effective communication skills and an ability to work with diverse populations are highly desired. A successful applicant will be expected to pursue an on-campus research program that will actively and sustainably involve undergraduate students, and to apply for external grant support.

Applications must include (1) a detailed cover letter describing the applicant's background and why she or he would be interested in joining the department, (2) a statement of philosophy and interest in teaching, (3) detailed research proposal with plans for undergraduate involvement, and (4) a full curriculum vitae including the names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of three professional references.
