Faculty at Bard High School Early College

Bard High School Early College - Queens, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for full and part-time faculty positions in Physics for Fall 2012. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.

We seek to hire a physicist in any subfield to join our Physics Department. Virtually all science faculty hold the Ph.D. The ideal applicant will have both college teaching experience, experience working with a younger audience, and will have research interests that can be established at an early college. We are looking for a skilled educator interested in engaging and challenging early college students. In addition to introductory college physics and electives as needed, they will teach physics in our innovative high school science program which is designed to engage students. Applicants should be prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues in developing and teaching an innovative science curriculum and involve interested students in their research.

To apply, send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, research interests, and three letters of recommendation to hr@bhsec.bard.edu with your name and “Physics Search” in the subject line. In addition, please describe a brief classroom or education anecdote, drawn from your experience as teacher or student, which you interpret for us (c. 250 words).

Inquiries may be directed via email to hr@bhsec.bard.edu to the attention of Val Thomson, Principal. Review of applications begins immediately and will proceed until the position is filled. Women and members of under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. All application materials sent via postal service will be discarded. Bard High School Early College is an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from those who contribute to our diversity. All applications sent via postal service or other courier will be discarded.
