Job Description:
Provide academic and transfer advising to currently enrolled students regarding program planning, course scheduling, graduation clearances and transfer policies. Collaborates closely with STEM partners at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC),Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC), and Montgomery College (MC) to develop and implement advising strategies for STEM students. Assists with the development and coordination of transfer advising materials and processes to develop a transfer advising model which can be replicated. Assists with the coordination of all kinds of transitional activities to encourage successful STEM transfer. Utilize technical assets to support advising and transfer activities with partner institutions to encourage retention and transfer of STEM students. Interprets various college policies and procedures for students, faculty and staff in particular as these relate to STEM transfer. Assists with the development of electronic and hard copy informational materials for students, faculty and staff . Assists with STEM transfer partnership/articulation agreements with HCC’s four year partners. Responds to all forms of STEM transfer inquiries, including in-person, telephone, written, and on-line.
Compensation:
$27.37 per hour. This position is overtime eligible for hours worked over 40.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in education, social science, student development, counseling or a related field or 3-5 years of previous advising experience. Prior experience with advising, teaching or counseling experience required including special populations. Knowledge of student communication management systems required. Excellent technology skills related in particular to online research and electronic information delivery. Demonstrated organization skills. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills including public speaking. Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service while managing multiple priorities. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Regular attendance is a requirement.
Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to advising, transfer, and general education strongly preferred. Outstanding knowledge of HCC’s academic policies and procedures. Outstanding knowledge of MHEC policies and procedures related to transfer programs found thorough out the state particularly as these policies relate to STEM programs. Knowledge of ARTSYS, College Source, CollegeView, Ellucian’s Colleague student system, ImageNow, and other software applications preferred.
