TT at Haverford College

Haverford College expects to fill a tenure-line position in experimental physics for the academic year of 2014-15 at the Assistant Professor level.  A more advanced appointment may be considered under exceptional circumstances.  We require a candidate with primary interests that lie outside astronomy and biophysics, although applicants who use astrophysical data to explore particle physics will be considered. The successful candidate should be able to teach courses to a diverse student body across the undergraduate physics curriculum, including advanced laboratory courses. A PhD in physics, or a closely related field, and at least two years’ postdoctoral experience (as of June 2014) is required.

Haverford is a selective college with motivated students and a commitment to both quality instruction and significant scholarship. Our Department of Physics and Astronomy has six faculty members with active research programs in theoretical quantum information, computational astrophysics, observational cosmology, extragalactic astronomy, biological physics, and nanoscience. The successful candidate should establish a research program that can involve and attract undergraduate students and can attract outside funding. Our location in the western suburbs of Philadelphia allows for convenient interactions with colleagues at other institutions.

Applicants should submit a c.v., research statement and teaching statement, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted via Interfolio at https://secure.interfolio.com/apply/22063, or sent via email to Corrinne Fahl, Faculty Dossier Coordinator, Haverford College, 370 Lancaster Avenue, Haverford, PA 19041 at hc-physicssearch@haverford.edu. For more information, go to http://www.haverford.edu/humanresources/job_openings/. Applications will be considered starting 10/10/2013 and continue until the position is filled.
