Essential Functions of Position
Commencing Fall 2016, a full-time, tenure-track faculty position will be available in the Physics Department. Responsibilities include teaching, on a rotation basis, calculus-level engineering physics lecture and lab, calculus-level life science physics lecture and lab, trigonometry-level general physics lecture and lab, and non-mathematical conceptual physics lecture and lab. Other responsibilities include required office hours for students’ needs, full participation in department responsibilities, and participation in the governance of the college via committee assignments. Involvement in activities designed to improve teaching and particularly the application of technology to the instructional process will be expected.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must meet one of these criteria:
1. Master’s in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics OR
2. Bachelor’s in physics or astronomy AND
Master’s in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics OR
3. Combination of education and other accomplishments that is equivalent to the above. (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement that presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g., transcripts, publications, and other work products.) OR
4. Possession of a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Physics.

Desirable Qualifications
• Full and complete understanding of the principles of Physics and Mathematics, plus strong communication skills.
• Experience using hands-on demonstrations to explain and communicate the principles of physics.
• Teaching experience in Physics at the college level.
• Diverse teaching experience with the different college levels of Physics as described above.
• Experience working with students outside the classroom.
• Familiarity with the transfer requirements of four-year universities.
• Familiarity with multimedia technologies in instruction.
• Demonstrate experience with utilization of strategies, techniques and methods that enhance student learning and success and respond to diverse learning styles and diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic, and disability backgrounds.
Salary & Benefits
The current salary schedule range for a entering tenure-track faculty member is $56,000-$87,794, plus an earned doctoral bonus of $2,800. Depending on the entry step, the faculty member advances one step each year and has the potential to reach the current maximum step of $111,764, depending on the educational level attained. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience. In addition to salary, each full-time employee participates in a “cafeteria style” health and welfare benefits program.

Selection Procedure:
Online applications will be initially reviewed by the selection committee, who will recommend candidates for personal interviews at SBCC. A teaching demonstration and in-person interview will be required for selected applicants. After the initial interviews have been conducted, the committee will recommend the top candidates to the Superintendent/President for a final interview. The successful candidate’s name will then be presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval and authorization to hire.
