Summary of Duties
This position is to support the mission of the Physics Department by managing and maintaining its scientific instrumentation, lab equipment, machine shop and demonstration equipment. Though this is not a teaching position, the Physics Demonstration and Instrumentation Manager will help train faculty and students on the use of specialized equipment such an EDS-equipped SEM. The individual in this position will also seek out novel physics demonstrations and construct them as time permits. Duties include support of outreach activities with physics demonstrations. Secondary duties will be to help maintain and develop specialized equipment in the Chemistry Department and Earth Science Department as circumstances permit.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree in physics or engineering required.
Experience in machining and electronics. Experience with electronic microscopy or similar types of instruments.

Knowledge
Knowledge of all areas of undergraduate physics, basic electronics and electric circuits, electronic instrumentation, shop practices, and basic construction.

Skills
Skills using research instruments typically found in a university physics lab.
Skills using machine tools such as a lathe and mill.
Skills in working with hand tools of all sorts, and ability to work with electric circuits.
Skills in completing simple electronic projects.

Abilities
Ability to organize inventory and budget expenses.
Ability to communicate well with others.
