Responsibilities
Delta State University is a four-year public university with approximately 3500 undergraduate and graduate students. Located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta in Cleveland, MS, DSU also plays host to the new Grammy Museum Mississippi.
The Department of Chemistry and Physics at DSU invites applications for a one-year non-tenure track assistant professor in Physics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Astronomy and all levels of undergraduate physics. Candidates in all areas of physics will be considered. The teaching load is typically 12 credit hours per semester.
This position would begin immediately.
In addition, the physics faculty manage and operate the Wiley Planetarium along with its outreach programs. This includes new program development and new content development. The planetarium consists of a 9m dome with a 3-D Digistar 5 system. Additionally, our collection of telescopes includes two 16 inch scopes, three 8 inch scopes, four 6 inch scopes, and a variety of smaller instruments.
The final mix of duties for the successful candidate will depend on their experience, capabilities and interests. Strong teaching skills are required and prior teaching experience is desirable.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or a closely related field, strong communication skills, and a commitment to teaching. Prior teaching experience and post-doctoral research are desirable.
Candidates who have not yet completed a Ph.D. but have at least 18 graduate hours in physics will be considered.

Salary Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
