The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi is seeking applications for Lecturers to teach Advanced Placement Physics courses in the AUP Physics Unit beginning in the Fall 2010 semester.
Applicants are required to have at least a Masters degree in Physics or Physics Education, and must have demonstrated experience and achievement in teaching at the secondary, foundation/bridging and/or undergraduate level. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work well in teams, and possess strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrate experience with current science pedagogy and enquiry based learning techniques. Another desirable attribute is some experience in teaching Advanced Placement Physics courses. Experience in the Middle East is preferred but is not a requirement.
The successful candidate will work closely with other members in the AUP Physics team in a continuing effort to refine the curriculum and to achieve common departmental goals. Other responsibilities include liaising with colleagues in the AP unit (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry); AUP English and Computing Units and the Independent Learning Center, as well as liaising with colleagues in the Arts & Sciences Program (1st and 2nd year college).
Furthermore, an integral part of the Lecturer's responsibilities is developing the study skills and work habits of the AUP students in order to prepare them for success in their 1st year at the college level. This is carried out by working with the students one-on-one and by communicating with the counselors and other academic department members.
Salary/Benefits: The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities; transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel.
