The College of Natural Science at Michigan State University expects to recruit a disciplinary science educator with research interests in teaching and learning at the undergraduate level. We seek a tenure system faculty scholar, preferably at the Assistant Professor level, with priority given to research interests in the life sciences but PER are strongly encouraged to apply. Exceptional candidates at any level, and with interests in any field of science education are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a tenure home within an appropriate science department and affiliation with the Division of Science and Mathematics Education, which promotes cross-college collaborations on STEM teaching and learning.
Applicants are expected to hold a doctorate in a disciplinary science or a related field; demonstrate scholarly accomplishment or promise through published material; and provide evidence of the capacity to contribute to the intellectual, research, and instructional life of MSU. The successful candidate will conduct research and teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Additional duties will vary depending on departmental placement and rank, university and academic unit needs, and the candidate’s experience and interests. Involvement in continuing collaborations among faculty interested in teaching and learning in STEM disciplines is expected.
A complete application package consists of a cover letter, curriculum vita, two manuscripts or published papers, statements of research and teaching interests, and three letters of reference. The candidate should arrange for prompt submission of letters.
Review of applications will begin October 1, 2010. Late submission will be considered if a suitable candidate pool is not identified by the deadline.
