Part Time Research Assistant at CUNY

General Description:
The City University of New York (CUNY) and the NYC Department of Education (DOE) are collaborating in the areas of research, partner engagement, aligning academic standards, advisement and counseling, and accountability and sustainability. This partnership is supported by a three-year Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Communities Learning in Partnership (CLIP) grant, and aims to increase the number of students who graduate from New York City public schools ready for college level work and to increase the number of students from New York City who complete a college degree.

Under the supervision of CUNY and DOE, and in support of the development of the CLIP grant, the Research Assistant will perform simple to moderately complex research utilizing education data sets, investigation, or analytic activities as part of a research team or working individually.

Given the immediate needs of the project, the selected candidate must be available to begin work quickly. The position is available for one year.

Other Duties:
• Assists research staff and CLIP team in coordinating research projects;
• Follows protocols for gathering qualitative and/or quantitative data, coding data or information, constructing data bases using specified technology, analyzing data, maintaining data security, and archiving data as needed;.
• Keeps accurate, well-organized records;
• Maintain confidentiality as required by the project or as directed by supervisors.

Core Competencies/Qualifications:
• Extensive experience working with longitudinal data sets;
• Knowledge of educational data sets, and/or K-12 performance data;
• Ability to effectively use SAS or SPSS, as well as all basic research equipment and devices standard to the field;
• Ability to use web-based technology, as needed;
• Ability to communicate effectively with other researchers, with supervisors and make clear, accurate observations orally and in writing;
• Ability to take direction and work as part of a team as well as independently;
• Master’s Degree and at least two years of social science related data analysis.

Salary: $30-$40/hour
19-24hours per week
