Position: Director of Digital Content, Physics
McGraw-Hill Higher Education/Science, Engineering and Mathematics


1. PURPOSE:
The Director of Development will be responsible for managing the content authoring process for all textbook and non-textbook-specific digital learning tools. Specifically, the position will manage the content development process to be followed by authors, contributors, vendors (including programming and quality assurance) and will provide key direction to the tool/feature set development of all discipline-specific platforms.


2. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES with percent times :

• Create, maintain, and manage the execution of content authoring guidelines for digital learning tools and work with Publisher and Digital Project Manager to assure vendor compliance with said guidelines. This position will be responsible for compliance for all phases of development from inception to beta to delivery to market. (35%)
• Manage digital authors and the content development process for all key titles in major discipline course areas and work to assure authors are maintaining schedules and executing authoring standards. (35%)
• Work with digital and discipline content team to develop new tool/feature set for discipline-specific products and platform development based on instructional design best practices. Play key role in investigating, scanning and evaluating potential new digital learning tools and evaluating competitive systems. (10%)
• Play key role in development events such as symposia, focus groups, conventions, online meetings, etc. Roles include, but are not limited to, creating event goals and agendas, presenting and moderating discussions, developing prototypes for customer feedback, and creating key feedback post-mortem documents to drive decision-making. (10%)
• Train discipline development staff and other internal stakeholders (senior management, sales representatives, technology specialists, etc.) on new content tools and feature sets of digital learning tools as needed. (10%)

3. OTHER REQUIRED ACCOUNTABILITIES: Describe any additional accountabilities not included under the essential accountabilities section, which are part of the job.

• This position will require some travel to event locations estimated at 10 to 20%.
• The position will require extensive training and knowledge of proprietary learning tool platforms, content engines, authoring environments, etc. to be provided by McGraw-Hill.
• This position will require extensive training on internal software applications for the management of digital content development to be provided by McGraw-Hill.
• This position may require employee to manage staff.
• This position will be responsible delivering high-stakes digital content for college level students to be used for learning, grading, and assessment that is accurate, beneficial, and of high-quality.

4. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

• M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) in Physics with a comfort level in both areas up to university physics/calculus-based course material.
• Experience teaching and working with college-level students in the classroom and in tutoring environments.
• Knowledge of general cognitive learning models preferred
• Knowledge of general assessment methodologies.
• Working knowledge and application of psychometrics a key plus
• Knowledge of widely-known Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning systems used in physics and chemistry courses a plus.
• Experience working on product development a plus.
• Knowledge on software development or development work on learning platforms a key plus.
• Knowledge of instructional design a key plus.
