2 VAP at Colgate University

The Colgate University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for twovisiting assistant professor positions in physics to begin in Fall 2011. One position is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years; the second position is a one-year position. Candidates should state whether they wish to be considered for only one position or for either position.

A Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a related discipline is required, and previous teaching experience is an advantage. We seek a person with a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Academic responsibilities include teaching introductory and upper level courses within the discipline as well as within Colgate’s Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The ability to teach electronics, optics, and/or solid state physics is desirable. Although the candidate will have no research responsibilities during this appointment, collaboration with current faculty is encouraged.

Colgate is a highly-selective liberal arts university of 2900 students situated in a picturesque village in central New York. The physics and astronomy department has nine faculty members housed in the new Ho Science Center, which is configured to facilitate interdisciplinary teaching and research. The department maintains well-equipped research laboratories in quantum and optical physics, condensed matter physics, superconducting electronics, computational physics, biophysics, planetary science, and observational astronomy.
