College of the Atlantic seeks a visiting faculty member in Physics and Mathematics. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of reappointment for an additional year. The anticipated start date is August, 2011.
The visiting faculty member will be expected to develop and teach introductory and intermediate classes in math and/or physics, supervise independent studies and senior projects, and contribute to college governance and service. The visiting faculty member will be one of only two professors in math/physics at the college. Courses offered should appeal to students who are focusing in the sciences, as well as those whose primary areas of interest lie elsewhere. The ability to engage a wide range of students is essential. We seek candidates who are interested in developing novel and creative ways to teach physics and math to motivated undergraduates.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach math and physics courses that help students make connections to other areas of our curriculum, such as biology, ecology, or economics. We are also interested in candidates who can teach courses in computer science, statistics, or chemistry.
A Ph.D. in physics, mathematics, or a related field is required. Teaching experience is strongly preferred.
