VAP at Illinois College

Illinois College invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement position (rank commensurate with experience) to begin August 2011. Ph.D. preferred but ABD and M.S. candidates are encouraged to apply. Candidate will have expertise in physics and/or electromagnetism and be committed to teaching in a small liberal arts college setting. Shared position options are possible. Teaching responsibilities: General Physics (2 semester course), Circuits (1 semester), and either Electricity & Magnetism (1 semester) or Dynamics (1 semester). Additional Information:

This position supports both the traditional Physics major and our active Dual-Degree Engineering program. The fall teaching load will include the first semester of the two-semester General Physics course with lab (PY 181), which typically enrolls 32 students between two lab sections, and the Circuits course with lab (PY 301) which typically enrolls 8 – 12 students. The spring teaching load will include the second semester General Physics course with lab (PY 182), and either the Electricity & Magnetism course with lab (PY 302) or the Dynamics course (PY 322), both of which typically enroll 8-12 students. Course descriptions may be found in the course catalog (see specific sections for the Physics program). This position provides a good opportunity for the successful candidate to develop a record of teaching excellence bridging both physics and engineering disciplines.
