The Rowan University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position beginning Fall 2011, with possible renewal for a third year. We seek candidates who are interested in teaching physics at both the introductory and advanced levels. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the current experimental and theoretical research programs within our department. A Ph.D. degree in Physics is preferred, but ABD may be considered. Teaching experience is a plus.
Usually our visiting professors are for two years (with a maximum of 3 years). We are hoping that this position is mutually beneficial to the applicant and our department. We are looking for someone who can bring new ideas and expertise/collaboration to our programs. For the applicant, we hope that we provide a strong experience for teaching and research in an undergraduate setting. As a result, we hope that the experience helps the applicant build a stronger CV to help them acquire a tenure-track job.
Rowan University is a comprehensive institution with an undergraduate enrollment of 8,500 students and 1,500 graduate students. It is located in southern New Jersey, 17 miles southeast of Philadelphia.The department consists of 10 faculty members, a laboratory coordinator, an instrument coordinator, and a secretary. We have eight active research facilities that foster student/faculty collaborative research including labs for magnetics, physical properties, thin film fabrication, microscopy, ultrafast spectroscopy, laser cooling, computational physics, and astronomy and astrophysics.Our department also houses an observatory, a planetarium, and a well-equipped machine shop.
