The Department of Physical Sciences at Kutztown University invites
applications for a one-year, full-time temporary faculty position in
Astronomy beginning August 2013. A Master of Science degree is
required; Ph. D. in Astronomy or a closely related field is preferred.
Candidate must have a strong interest in undergraduate teaching and
research. Teaching responsibilities will include both lecture and
laboratory sections consisting of twenty-four contact hours per academic
year. Preference will be given to candidates willing and able to
integrate current pedagogy into laboratory and general education
lectures and participate in the ongoing public outreach and
undergraduate research programs.
The successful candidate
will contribute to the new Astronomy Track within the B.S. Physics
program and will enjoy access to our 24 inch (0.61 meter) RC optical
telescope and CCD photometry (UBVRI) system in our on-campus
observatory, as well as our state-of-the-art digital planetarium and
surveying/GPS systems. Current faculty include a stellar astronomer and
a planetary scientist in an active research group working on eclipsing
binary stars, mass transfer, stellar evolution & magnetic activity,
Martian climate history, and planetary surface processes. The program
is heavily involved in outreach efforts that utilize the planetarium and
observatory and serve the community, provide programs to local schools,
and integrate science into the K-12 curriculum.
