The School of Physics invites applications for a teaching associate or fellow, for a 3 year period commencing Easter 2013 or shortly after.


We seek an outstanding educator able to teach across the curriculum, particularly in Particle Physics or Quantum Physics, but not limited to those areas. The postholder will be expected to deliver first class teaching and enhance the experience of undergraduate students. As a research intensive university, the successful appointee will be expected to deliver "research led education." Duties will include delivering lecture courses; tutorials and small group teaching; supervision of laboratory classes including training and supervision of postgraduate student demonstrators; monitoring student progress; setting and marking assessments and exams; developing new course materials including on-line learning materials; providing pastoral care; working with schools and outreach. With a PhD in Physics or related discipline, the successful candidate will be able to impart Physics knowledge enthusiastically to students; have experience of formulating teaching materials; excellent organisational skills and advanced practical skills.

The appointment will be within Pathway 3, profile b or c, Grade J or K, according to qualifications and experience. The post has fixed term funding for 3 years, subject to the University's standard probation, progression and promotion procedures. Candidates with substantial prior experience at Teaching Associate level will be considered for appointment to Teaching Fellow.
