The Department of Physics at Davidson College invites applications for a tenure-track position and for a two-year visiting position to begin August 1, 2015. Completion or imminent completion of the Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics is required for either position. Candidates for both positions must be committed to outstanding teaching of a diverse student population.
For the tenure-track position, we seek an astronomer, astrophysicist, or physicist who will teach our classroom and laboratory astronomy courses at all levels, as well as teach our introductory and advanced physics courses. Preference will be given to candidates who do research in astronomy, are committed to establishing a research program involving undergraduates, and will be actively engaged in our astronomy outreach program.
For the two-year visiting position we seek a physicist who will teach classroom and laboratory courses in introductory physics, particularly for the life sciences. Teaching at the advanced undergraduate level is also possible depending on interests and experience of the applicant.
Both appointments provide an annual professional travel fund and the potential for research support. The tenure-track position will have startup funds available. The typical teaching load is five semester courses per year.
Applications must be submitted online at https://jobs.davidson.edu/. Application process questions may be directed to the HR Department at 704-894-2213 or by email at employment@davidson.edu.
