2-year Visiting Assistant Professor - University of the Pacific

Position Description

The Department of Physics at the University of the Pacific is accepting applications for a 2-year Visiting Assistant Professor (non tenure track) faculty position to start in August 2017. This is a full-time benefits-eligible teaching-focused position, with an expectation of six courses per year. Pacific is renowned for its rich liberal arts education, its high quality professional schools, and the close mentoring relationship between faculty and students. We offer B.S. degrees in physics and engineering-physics, and a B.A. degree in physics designed for science teaching. The Department has grant-funded research groups in high energy theory, the astrophysics of active galactic nuclei, galaxy formation and evolution, exoplanetary systems, and K-12 science education outreach. Applicants must have a PhD. and be prepared to teach algebra-based and calculus-based introductory physics covering mechanics, thermodynamics and electromagnetism. The ability to teach other courses such as the physics of music and introductory scientific computing is desirable. Applications will be reviewed starting December 1, 2016 and will continue until the position is filled.
