The Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at Pacific University invites applications for a tenure-track position in physics at the Assistant Professor level beginning in the fall semester of 2017. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics and demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching as well as scholarship involving undergraduates. Post-doctoral experience and college or university teaching experience are desired.
Teaching Expectations
We seek candidates with an interest in teaching at all levels of our undergraduate liberal arts curriculum. The Department is dedicated to maintaining an environment that is informed by Physics Education Research and we teach using active-learning techniques throughout the curriculum. We further distinguish our curriculum by including laboratory experiences in every upper division course.
Research Expectations
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active research program that includes undergraduates. The department currently has strengths in solid-state physics and optics. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests complement those of the department: experimental solid-state, computational, and physics education research. Exceptional candidates in all fields of expertise will be considered. A competitive research start-up package will be provided.
Service Expectations
The successful candidate is expected to participate in service tasks at the departmental, college and university levels.

The Physics Department at Pacific
The Physics Department consists of five faculty members and one full-time lab manager. We graduate approximately 5-10 majors each year. Many of our students go on to pursue graduate degrees in physics or careers in industry. We are proud of our passion and commitment to teaching and believe in a strong role for all types of undergraduate research in the development of our students.
