Open Rank Position in Quantitative Educational Research Methodology

Position Description: The College of Education at North Carolina State University announces the availability of a tenured or tenure track position in quantitative educational research methodology. The College has developed a five-course research sequence that includes both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to be offered to students in all doctoral programs in the college beginning in the fall, 2011, semester. We seek an exceptional individual to lead this sequence. The position currently resides in the Department of Leadership, Policy, Adult, and Higher Education; however, the candidate will be hired in the department that best matches his/her areas of expertise.

The successful applicant for this position will: 1) serve as coordinator of the College’s research sequence; 2) teach 2-3 courses per year in the College’s research sequence and/or in areas of special expertise; 3) serve as the lead investigator and team leader for large studies that include faculty members from multiple departments; and 4) serve as a quantitative methodologist on appropriate doctoral committees.

Other duties include the following:

· Produce high quality scholarship that impacts teaching, learning and/or policy;

· Seek external funding to support scholarly activities;

· Mentor/advise graduate students (i.e., master’s and Ph.D. levels) in quantitative research;

· Participate in public service and outreach efforts at local, national, and international levels;

· Collaborate with teacher, administrator, and other educator preparation programs in the college as appropriate and needed;

· Assist in department and college governance and outreach.



Required qualifications: Earned doctorate in educational research, psychometrics, educational policy, educational psychology, statistics, economics, or related area; excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent leadership and collaboration skills; proven scholarly research and publication record associated with a research extensive university or the potential to establish such a record; understanding of the policy and political contexts for assessment and accountability; broad knowledge of varied research methodologies, and commitment to using technology in teaching, including online instruction.

Preferred qualifications: Special consideration will be given to applicants with (a) advanced methods in research approaches including linear and nonlinear modeling; (b)interest in or experience in leading or participating in a value-added research and evaluation initiative to determine the impacts and effects of teachers and other influences on K-12 student learning; (c) experience in formative and performance-based assessments (d) broad knowledge of research-based and creative pedagogical approaches to graduate instruction; and (e) experience working with teachers and students in culturally diverse settings.
