VAP at Grinnell College

2-year leave replacement position in physics. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.). Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college. The physics department has nine faculty members with active research programs; for more information see http://www.grinnell.edu/academic/physics. The department graduates 10-15 physics majors each year, about one-half of whom are women or under-represented minorities. The College's curriculum is founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion of a major. Grinnell has a teaching schedule of five courses over two semesters, with a lab counting as half a course. The successful candidate is expected to teach at all levels of a rigorous undergraduate physics curriculum.

In letters of application, candidates should discuss their interest in developing as a teacher and scholar in an undergraduate, liberal-arts college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction. They also should discuss what they can contribute to efforts to cultivate a wide diversity of people and perspectives, a core value of Grinnell College.
