TT/T Science Education, U of Mary Hardin - Baylor, TX

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s College of Sciences seeks Lecturer / Assistant / Associate Professor of Science Education beginning in August 2014. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
The College of Sciences collaborates with the College of Education to provide content and pedagogical instruction in single and multi-subject secondary science education, and science content training for elementary and middle level education.
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 18,000 in the heart of central Texas. Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Faculty Responsibilities: Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching; curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation; student advising; possible evening and web course development; professional attainment; recruitment and retention activities; and service to the department, college, university, and community. While primarily a teaching institution, UMHB recognizes and rewards research, publication, and other forms of scholarly attainment.

Specific Responsibilities: Teach content courses in a natural science discipline represented at UMHB (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Environmental Science), and internship and secondary science teaching methods courses for students studying for licensure in secondary science education. Full-time faculty members typically teach 12-14 hours per semester with three course preparations. In addition, the position will work closely with the College of Education to insure that all science education students are fully prepared for state licensure at the time of graduation.

Qualifications:
A Master’s degree is required and a Doctoral degree is preferred, in one of these areas:
• Science Education with at least 18 hours of graduate level coursework in a natural science discipline represented at UMHB (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Environmental Science), or
• A natural science discipline represented at UMHB (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Environmental Science) with at least 18 graduate hours of education coursework.
Tenure track requires terminal degree in hand. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a current teaching license in secondary science or who can provide evidence of science teaching experience at the secondary level.
Other requirements include a proven record of scholarly activities (including but not limited to publications and scientific presentations, with grant writing a plus), a minimum of two years college-level teaching experience, a demonstrated commitment to outstanding teaching (including innovative lectures and labs), excellent oral and written communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, the demonstrated ability to utilize instructional technology in the classroom, collegiality, and commitment to quality improvement are essential. Must be an active, committed Christian.
