Position Summary
The faculty member will be qualified to teach Geology, General Physics, Calculus based Physics, and possibly Astronomy courses. The faculty member will possess skills needed to teach on-ground, online, TN eCampus and hybrid formats. The teaching assignment involves teaching associated labs, ordering equipment, and assembly and maintenance of equipment. The faculty member will work with current faculty members to maintenance our observatory.

This position is contingent upon approval of the FY16-17 budget by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
A. Teaching courses and associated laboratory sections.
B. Recommending curriculum changes and modifications.
C. Completing goals and objects for the individual and department.
D. Completing educational outcome measures and academic reporting as required.
E. Attending and participating in college committee assignments.
F. Providing career and course advising for pre-professional students.
G. Maintain adequate laboratory equipment and supplies.
H. Proficient in delivering lecture/lab content using online platform.
I. Perform other related duties as assigned.
J. Complete all duties outlined in Guidelines for Faculty WSCC Policy 06:01:01.

Required Qualifications
A. Minimum of a Master’s degree (earned doctorate preferred) with eighteen or more graduate semester hours in geology from a regionally accredited institution. Preference will be given to advanced degrees and candidates that are also qualified to teach Physics, Astronomy, and/or Pre-Engineering.
B. Minimum of three years’ experience teaching Geology lecture and lab classes.
C. Background in utilizing multimedia programs and technology in an inquiry-based laboratory environment.
D. Experience developing and/or facilitating instruction in a distance education learning setting, especially in TN eCampus.
E. Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics
Recommending equipment, and assembly of purchased equipment as needed. In the case of equipment requiring professional repair the candidate will secure vendors and specify the work to be done.
