FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology, a comprehensive college of 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to begin during the 2016-17 academic year. The position requires a commitment to teaching, research and other scholarly pursuits, service to the college, and student advisement. Research work with undergraduate students in an area of physics is strongly encouraged.

A successful candidate will be expected to prepare and present lectures in general algebra/trigonometry based and calculus based physics, astronomy, computational physics and different courses of modern physics, as well as conduct laboratory classes in general physics, and to develop a new course for advanced undergraduate students. Furthermore, he or she will be expected to develop a research program that will involve undergraduate students and that is likely to receive external funding. City Tech offers opportunity for professional development through collaborations with the larger CUNY community. As a member of the Physics department, a successful candidate will provide professional advice and guidance to students and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in physics is required, along with the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Current research in the field of theoretical condensed/solid state physics focused on computational physics is desirable.
