Purpose of Position
The Department of Physic, Geology and Engineering Technology at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for a Lecturer position beginning Fall of 2019. This is a non-tenure-track-renewable position.
The department offers baccalaureate degrees in physics, geology, and three specialties in engineering technology as well as pre-engineering transfer programs. The faculty of the department includes thirteen tenured/tenure-track faculty, five permanent lecturers, six full-time lecturers and a number of part-time faculty. Primary Responsibilities
The applicants should be committed to achieving excellence in teaching at all levels of undergraduate physics courses. The ability to teach astronomy is a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in service, including department engagement with the community. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required. The successful candidate should possess a proven record of teaching excellence at the introductory and advanced level physics courses and should hold a Ph.D. in physics.

STEM Education Postdoc - IUPUI
The STEM Education Innovation and Research Institute (SEIRI) at IUPUI seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral Researcher. Fab Lab Director, Edgewood College WI

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are searching for an individual with a Master’s or PhD in Physics or Engineering to design and build a new Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) on campus. Funding has been secured from the college to develop a Fab Lab facility that will be used to support our pre-engineering programs. The Director will select and purchase equipment for the facility, train students to use the equipment, supervise student projects, and develop new courses that utilize the facility.
Prior experience working in a Fab Lab or Makerspace environment with students is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have experience teaching at either the secondary or college level, and be willing to work on program development and assessment.
Currently, Edgewood College has “pre-engineering” concentrations within three majors: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Additionally, a partnership agreement with Madison College allows students to take coursework in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Renewable Energy. This position will be housed in the Department of Chemistry, Geoscience, & Physics (CGP). This will be a 10 month, academic year position. This is a three-year appointment, with possibility of permanent position continuing beyond the grant period.
Responsibilities include:
Manage the “Fab Lab” facility (30%)
Work within a budget to select and order equipment for a new Fab Lab facility
Supervise student projects
Facilitate workshops related to teaching students to use the Fab Lab equipment
Coordinate use of the facility for faculty, staff, and students both from the pre-engineering program and from outside of the CGP Department
Maintain Fab Lab and Physics laboratory equipment, including development of safety protocols
Help faculty develop ways to integrate use of Fab Lab into existing courses
Teaching (50%)
Develop an “Intro to Engineering” course
Develop additional new courses in engineering, based on candidate’s area of expertise
Assist in teaching physics courses as needed by the department
Coordinate Pre-engineering Programs (20%)
Promote pre-engineering programs to recruit prospective students, both new freshman and transfer students
Advise students interested in pre-engineering majors and/or engineering careers
Maintain and expand on Edgewood’s existing Pre-Engineering programs

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are searching for an individual with a Master’s or PhD in Physics or Engineering to design and build a new Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) on campus. Funding has been secured from the college to develop a Fab Lab facility that will be used to support our pre-engineering programs. The Director will select and purchase equipment for the facility, train students to use the equipment, supervise student projects, and develop new courses that utilize the facility.
Prior experience working in a Fab Lab or Makerspace environment with students is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have experience teaching at either the secondary or college level, and be willing to work on program development and assessment.
Currently, Edgewood College has “pre-engineering” concentrations within three majors: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Additionally, a partnership agreement with Madison College allows students to take coursework in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Renewable Energy. This position will be housed in the Department of Chemistry, Geoscience, & Physics (CGP). This will be a 10 month, academic year position. This is a three-year appointment, with possibility of permanent position continuing beyond the grant period.
Responsibilities include:
Manage the “Fab Lab” facility (30%)
Work within a budget to select and order equipment for a new Fab Lab facility
Supervise student projects
Facilitate workshops related to teaching students to use the Fab Lab equipment
Coordinate use of the facility for faculty, staff, and students both from the pre-engineering program and from outside of the CGP Department
Maintain Fab Lab and Physics laboratory equipment, including development of safety protocols
Help faculty develop ways to integrate use of Fab Lab into existing courses
Teaching (50%)
Develop an “Intro to Engineering” course
Develop additional new courses in engineering, based on candidate’s area of expertise
Assist in teaching physics courses as needed by the department
Coordinate Pre-engineering Programs (20%)
Promote pre-engineering programs to recruit prospective students, both new freshman and transfer students
Advise students interested in pre-engineering majors and/or engineering careers
Maintain and expand on Edgewood’s existing Pre-Engineering programs

About the Smart Energy Scholars Program:
The Smart Energy Scholars Program aims to create seamless transfer between SUNY Broome, Queensborough Community College, and Binghamton University to prepare academically talented, low income students for careers in the renewable energy future of the United States. Students in this program will receive financial, academic, and social support. A custom designed seminar, academic advising, research experience, and internships are features of the program to retain and graduate students with bachelor's in chemistry, physics, and mechanical engineering within four years. This program is supported by the National Science Foundation's Scholarships in STEM program.
Position Summary:
The Educational Researcher will work closely with the team to address key questions about how transfer students perform throughout their pursuit of a STEM bachelor's degree if they are given financial, academic, and social support. This research is significant because of the lower rates of success for transfer students (compared to native students), the low rates of bachelor's degree completion for students who begin at community colleges, and the need for more graduates with STEM competencies. We will assess the implementation of a community of practice designed to improve student's self-concept of being a STEM major, conceptual knowledge in their domain, and the sense of agency to overcome challenges on the STEM degree path, factors that have been shown to be significant predictors of persistence along the transfer path as well as in science. Our research aims to understand how students persist and perform in STEM degrees, along the transfer pathway specifically, paying attention to cognitive, structural and social variables.
We are developing a smart energy seminar to foster our program objectives using innovative pedagogies. The Educational Researcher will also work closely with the team to coordinate and implement the seminar. The position will be based at Binghamton University and may require some travel to partner campuses in Binghamton and New York City. The expected start date will be August 2018, for a one-year period with option of renewal.
Job Responsibilities:
Work with the project team to finalize the mixed methods approach to address the research objectives which includes:
Comparisons of quantitative student outcomes (GPA, retention and graduation rates) between scholars in the program and matched groups outside of the program
Use of the nationally validated survey, Student Experience in a Research University
Qualitative data generation through observation, interviews and focus groups
Implement the research protocol, collecting data across the three campuses
Monitor challenges and opportunities in the research design and implementation
Work with the external project evaluator to share and discuss data as appropriate
Analyze and write up results for conference presentations, scholarly publications, and public briefs on the project
Participate in seminar and other program events
Coordinate the smart energy seminar
Contribute content to seminar, as needed
Other related duties as assigned

About the Smart Energy Scholars Program:
The Smart Energy Scholars Program aims to create seamless transfer between SUNY Broome, Queensborough Community College, and Binghamton University to prepare academically talented, low income students for careers in the renewable energy future of the United States. Students in this program will receive financial, academic, and social support. A custom designed seminar, academic advising, research experience, and internships are features of the program to retain and graduate students with bachelor's in chemistry, physics, and mechanical engineering within four years. This program is supported by the National Science Foundation's Scholarships in STEM program.
Position Summary:
The Educational Researcher will work closely with the team to address key questions about how transfer students perform throughout their pursuit of a STEM bachelor's degree if they are given financial, academic, and social support. This research is significant because of the lower rates of success for transfer students (compared to native students), the low rates of bachelor's degree completion for students who begin at community colleges, and the need for more graduates with STEM competencies. We will assess the implementation of a community of practice designed to improve student's self-concept of being a STEM major, conceptual knowledge in their domain, and the sense of agency to overcome challenges on the STEM degree path, factors that have been shown to be significant predictors of persistence along the transfer path as well as in science. Our research aims to understand how students persist and perform in STEM degrees, along the transfer pathway specifically, paying attention to cognitive, structural and social variables.
We are developing a smart energy seminar to foster our program objectives using innovative pedagogies. The Educational Researcher will also work closely with the team to coordinate and implement the seminar. The position will be based at Binghamton University and may require some travel to partner campuses in Binghamton and New York City. The expected start date will be August 2018, for a one-year period with option of renewal.
Job Responsibilities:
Work with the project team to finalize the mixed methods approach to address the research objectives which includes:
Comparisons of quantitative student outcomes (GPA, retention and graduation rates) between scholars in the program and matched groups outside of the program
Use of the nationally validated survey, Student Experience in a Research University
Qualitative data generation through observation, interviews and focus groups
Implement the research protocol, collecting data across the three campuses
Monitor challenges and opportunities in the research design and implementation
Work with the external project evaluator to share and discuss data as appropriate
Analyze and write up results for conference presentations, scholarly publications, and public briefs on the project
Participate in seminar and other program events
Coordinate the smart energy seminar
Contribute content to seminar, as needed
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
Applicants must have a Ph.D or equivalent in a science or engineering field. Science education, learning science, or related degree preferred.

STEM Education Postdoc, Colorado School of Mines
The Colorado School of Mines has a full-time post-doc position open to work with two NSF grant funded projects related to STEM teacher preparation. The position is three-quarters time on Get the Facts Out: Changing the Conversation around STEM teaching and one quarter-time on our Noyce Scholarship Grant. Get The Facts Out is an innovative partnership led by Mines that includes the American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers, the American Chemical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, behavior change researchers, teacher educators, and several colleges and universities to serve as study sites. The grant aims to tackle misperceptions about the teaching profession with the goal of increasing the fraction of physics, chemistry, and math majors that choose to pursue middle and high school teaching as a career.
This position requires travel annually to the six study sites, the annual project team meeting, and a national conference to report on project findings. The post-doc will work with Wendy Adams, Physics Education Research Faculty member, and Kristine Callan, Physics Teaching Professor.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree before the position start date in physics, chemistry, mathematics, science education, or communications. Candidates can either have a degree in education research or demonstrated interest in education research. The successful candidate will have excellent communications skills, strong quantitative skills, ability to work collaboratively, the self-discipline to work independently, and enjoy multi-tasking.
Job Responsibilities: Conduct research on perceptions of teaching as a profession, including longitudinal analysis of perceptions through surveys, site visits, interviews, and focus groups. Conduct teacher recruitment activities at Mines including presentations, advising, and assisting with scholarship decisions. Supervise undergraduate research assistants, manage budgets, and report findings through peer-reviewed publications.
Salary: $50,000 per year with benefits and travel support. The Post-doc will be on a yearly-appointment with funding for up to five years.

Job Summary
The Department of Physics is seeking a manager to lead daily operations and support pedagogy for the laboratory courses in our introductory course sequences. The lab manager oversees on-site supervision and equipment support for six different introductory lab courses: a standard introduction to mechanics and E&M (PHYSICS 141 and 241), as well as an honors approach (PHYSICS 161 and 261) and a health sciences curriculum for mechanics and E&M (PHYSICS 136 and 236). Combined, these courses have a total enrollment of more than 4,500 students each academic year (fall, winter, and spring half term). Additionally, the lab manager works in concert with our associate chair for undergraduate studies and faculty lab coordinators to support the delivery of the course content and curricular innovation.

Daily operation leadership includes:
Managing the weekly or twice weekly change-over of six lab classrooms with eight to ten set-ups each
Ensure all equipment is in working order; organize repairs proactively and as needed
Acquiring laboratory consumables, replacement equipment, and new equipment and supplies
Maintaining an inventory of equipment and consumables
Maintaining a budget and financial documentation for consumables and new or replacement equipment
Maintain a system by which students with instructor consent are able to execute labs that they were unable to do in class due to absence

Job Summary
The Department of Physics is seeking a manager to lead daily operations and support pedagogy for the laboratory courses in our introductory course sequences. The lab manager oversees on-site supervision and equipment support for six different introductory lab courses: a standard introduction to mechanics and E&M (PHYSICS 141 and 241), as well as an honors approach (PHYSICS 161 and 261) and a health sciences curriculum for mechanics and E&M (PHYSICS 136 and 236). Combined, these courses have a total enrollment of more than 4,500 students each academic year (fall, winter, and spring half term). Additionally, the lab manager works in concert with our associate chair for undergraduate studies and faculty lab coordinators to support the delivery of the course content and curricular innovation.

Responsibilities*
Daily operation leadership includes:
Managing the weekly or twice weekly change-over of six lab classrooms with eight to ten set-ups each
Ensure all equipment is in working order; organize repairs proactively and as needed
Acquiring laboratory consumables, replacement equipment, and new equipment and supplies
Maintaining an inventory of equipment and consumables
Maintaining a budget and financial documentation for consumables and new or replacement equipment
Maintain a system by which students with instructor consent are able to execute labs that they were unable to do in class due to absence
Supervising a team of undergraduate and graduate student temporary employees
Ensuring that all lab spaces and practices comply with OSEH and University health and safety standards and regulations
Curriculum support includes:

DBER Postdoc, Duke
A postdoctoral position focused on writing-to-learn pedagogies in science education is available in the Biology Department at Duke University. The position is part of an NSF-funded IUSE grant (Improving Undergraduate STEM Education) to understand the role of writing in promoting learning and engagement for undergraduates at the introductory and capstone levels, with particular attention to the mechanisms of effect. The responsibilities of the position include: executing empirical studies of student learning and engagement in collaboration with researchers and course instructors from biology, chemistry, statistics, and other disciplines/departments across three universities (Duke University, University of Minnesota, and University of Michigan); performing extensive quantitative analysis of new and previously-collected data; and disseminating products of our efforts to both research communities (through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and written reports) and communities of practice (through annual professional development workshops and subsequent virtual collaborations).
Applicants should have a background in program evaluation and scientific teaching, have strong writing and quantitative analysis skills, be highly motivated to participate in a diverse research team, and possess exceptional organizational and management skills. Experience with teaching through writing is desirable, but not required. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop expertise in writing-to-learn pedagogies. A Ph.D. in disciplinary-based education research in STEM is required.

Clinical Assistant Professor Master Teacher, Florida International University
The STEM Transformation Institute is searching for one Master Teacher for the FIUteach program with a preference for specialization in physics, but excellent candidates from other sciences or mathematics will be considered. FIUteach is a replication of the mature, successful UTeach model for recruiting, preparing, and inducting secondary science and mathematics teachers into teaching careers in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The Master Teacher is the primary point of contact for undergraduate students in the FIUteach program and will teach initial courses in the teacher education program as well as supervising students in elementary, middle and high school settings. The individual selected as Master Teacher must have a master’s degree in science or mathematics or in science/math education and a minimum of five years of experience as a secondary classroom teacher in science or math. Master Teachers will be hired as Clinical Faculty and will report to program co-directors and work closely with the Project Director. Master Teachers are responsible for: teaching Step 1 & Step 2 classes, planning and carrying out field experiences for FIUTeach students and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities:
Persons appointed as clinical faculty members in the FIUTeach program are non-tenured faculty who will be hired into the STEM Transformation Institute. An appointment to this position will primarily involve participation in teaching and/or supervising undergraduate students in courses and experiences related to field-based teacher development. Primary responsibilities include teaching field-based courses students take in their pursuit of certification, identifying qualified local public school teachers who can serve as mentor teachers, working with local area public school teachers who act as mentors for the students, working with the College’s Field Placement Office to coordinate field placements and student teaching sites for students, and conducting field observations of the students. Additional duties will include student mentoring and other programmatically related tasks.
