Full-time professional staff position

The Department of Physics at Texas Tech University (TTU) seeks a fulltime laboratory coordinator to oversee all aspects of the undergraduate teaching laboratories. This will include laboratory development and the implementation of new teaching techniques, consistent with broader departmental goals for the improvement of undergraduate instruction. We seek a physicist who keeps current on new and innovative instructional methods, laboratory techniques and physics education research (PER) or a physics education research (PER) postdoctoral researcher (in which case the period of employment would be two years). The laboratory coordinator will be expected to seek externally funded grants in support of the educational needs of the laboratory and the department and, if the coordinator is a PER researcher or interested in PER research, to conduct physics education research in the laboratories. Duties will include the acquisition and maintenance of equipment, assigning, training, scheduling and supervising teaching assistants, and organizing, acquiring and maintaining lecture demonstration equipment. The coordinator will also supervise the undergraduate laboratory technician and teach introductory lecture and laboratory sections as needed.

Would like an advanced degree in physics or related fields, with experience in teaching introductory laboratory courses. Ability to interact effectively with faculty and graduate teaching assistants towards the goal of continuing improvement of the undergraduate laboratory program of the Department of Physics.

Salary competitive and commensurate with experience. Search starts immediately.
