Instructor at Shelton State Community College

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Physics or a related field is required
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
Interest in incorporating innovative teaching methods into classroom instruction is required
Master’s degree or higher in Physics is preferred
Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level is preferred
Teaching experience in a range of college level science courses is preferred (i.e., Environmental science, Astronomy, Physical Science, Physics, Statics, Thermodynamics, Pre-engineering)
Computer literacy in software packages such as Excel, Word, and/or Power Point is preferred
Experience in developing/teaching courses via distance learning technology is preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Design and deliver class and lab meetings to ensure an effective learning experience for students
Develop, implement, and teach courses using distance learning technology (i.e., internet etc.), video courses, CD-ROM, DVD courses and courses taught via other non-traditional delivery methods
Submit to the Division Chair a course plan (syllabus) for each course taught
Maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area
Incorporate current teaching techniques, subject area developments, and current technology (if applicable) into the learning experience
Provide classroom instruction in accordance with approved course outlines
Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and academic progress
Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student
Assist in the planning and development of laboratory activities for the various courses
Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit them according to announced deadlines
Prepare and grade assignments, projects, and examinations as required
Participate in the planning of effective long-range goals for the department
Assist the division chair with developing and managing of a departmental budget
Demonstrate effective professionalism, people skills, communication skills, and work ethic (i.e., preparation and punctuality)
Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community college
