Seattle Central Community College Division of Science and Mathematics (SAM) seeks an accomplished, creative, and dedicated educator to teach calculus-based Physics classes, a wide range of mathematics courses at as well as introductory Astronomy courses. Classes may include afternoon or evening classes for some quarters. Seattle Central welcomes faculty with a demonstrated commitment to student learning and success. Successful applicants will have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding. Other professional obligations include mentoring students, curriculum development and review, conducting student evaluations, and active participation on committee and divisional assignments. This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning September 2013, in the Division of Science and Mathematics of Seattle Central Community College.

Essential Functions:

Work collaboratively to develop, assess, revise and update curriculum and course content.
Maintain office hours to assist students in coursework and academic progress.
Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and the public.
Collaborate with other faculty to implement program scheduling, materials sourcing, equipment purchases and maintenance, and other program management activities.
Participate in the assessment of student academic achievement at the classroom, department and college levels.
Produce reports and other communications as needed.
Participate in various department, division, college-wide and district committees and projects.
Abide by college and division policies including but not restricted to: submitting student grades and course syllabi within established timelines and following published examination schedules.

Required Education, Experience & Abilities:

Master of Science degree in Physics or Mathematics (with upper-level Physics courses).
Experience teaching physics or mathematics at the college level.
Physics laboratory teaching experience.
Evidence of the ability to communicate knowledge and skill in both oral and written forms to students.
A commitment to quality education using a student-centered focus.
Demonstrated work experience in an educational environment that accepts all cultures, ethnicities, and diverse backgrounds.
An understanding of the goals and challenges of working in a community college.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching physics, mathematics, astronomy or a related subject at a community college.
Experience creating integrated or coordinated courses with other disciplines.
Experience in Physics/Mathematics/Astronomy curriculum development with integration of technology.
Course work in Physics Education.
Ph.D. in Physics or Mathematics.
Experience in managing and maintaining a Physics laboratory.
Experience and success at generating interest in Physics/Mathematics/Astronomy among students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
