                                      POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Open Rank Professor of STEM Education

The Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track position in its Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (FCR-STEM) to begin August 2015. Rank awarded will be commensurate with experience.

Established by the Florida Legislature, FCR-STEM’s mission is to help the state of Florida improve K-12 teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and prepare students for higher education and STEM careers in the 21st century. Its primary functions include scientifically rigorous research, technical assistance to schools and schools districts, support of the Florida’s math and science education initiatives, and dissemination of evidence-based practices. The Center is housed within the Learning Systems Institute, a multidisciplinary research and development organization based at FSU dedicated to improving learning and human performance. Our project-based teams are made up of faculty with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. These teams feature LSI’s own experts, top researchers from FSU’s other units and partners at leading institutions across the country and the globe. LSI’s clients include a variety of private, federal and state agencies, as well as international governmental entities. Among the U.S. federal agencies LSI has served are the Department of Education, the Agency for International Development, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Office of Naval Research, and the Department of Homeland Security. Since its founding in 1969, LSI has attracted more than $500 million in research and development funding. At the present time, approximately 100 LSI faculty and staff are engaged in more than twenty active projects (approximately $50 million in total funding) in the state of Florida as well as Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

The individual selected for this position will collaborate with current LSI faculty and staff to provide leadership for the research mission and development of the center. Specific responsibilities include contributing to the center’s activities, collaborating with and facilitating collaboration among FCR-STEM faculty members on the design and execution of research projects, preparing grant proposals, writing and publishing research papers, coordinating development and execution of the center’s research plan, and directing graduate students. It is envisioned that the person in this position will not only advance and support the research of FCR-STEM faculty but also serve as Principal Investigator of his/her own research projects.
