TT at MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY – SCIENCE EDUCATION


The Division of Science at Minot State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Science Education. This appointment will be at the assistant professor level starting Fall 2015. A doctoral degree by time of appointment is preferred, but an ABD nearing completion of the doctoral degree may be considered. We seek someone with a background specializing in Science Education who is also qualified to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the science disciplines, preferably physics. The professional background should include at least three years teaching experience at the middle school or secondary (7-12) grade level and the candidate must have familiarity with science teaching methodology for candidates at the K-6 grade level. Teaching expectations include methods courses for both elementary and secondary education students, supervision of secondary-level student teachers, and involvement in a Master of Arts in Teaching: Science program; and may include undergraduate science courses in one’s specialty as deemed appropriate.
Applicants for the position should demonstrate potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and active engagement in research and scholarship. Research expectations include development of an active research program that would ideally include studies involving undergraduate students as well as graduate students in our Master of Arts in Teaching: Science program. This research may be in the area of Science Education or another area in which the person has a strong background.
We seek someone who will enthusiastically participate in undergradaute and graduate education and research. Our institution is one where the faculty work closely with students both in coursework and in carrying out research. Student engagement is important at Minot State University, and in the sciences research is an important part of that engagement process.
